Vom 17. bis 19. Jahrhundert hatte Spanien ein Problem mit Piraten, die vom Osmanischen Reich offen unterstützt wurden. An der Südküste wurde deshalb eine Reihe von Festungen errichtet, die Überfälle abwehren sollten.

Desde el siglo XVII al XIX, España tuvo un problema con los piratas, que contaban abiertamente con el apoyo del Imperio Otomano. Por ello se construyeron una serie de fortalezas en la costa sur para protegerse de las incursiones.
From the 17th to the 19th century, Spain had a problem with pirates, who were openly supported by the Ottoman Empire. A series of fortresses were therefore built on the south coast to ward off raids.
